Moroccan Hash
Although Moroccan hashish is often considered an ancient and traditional product by many Europeans, the truth is that hashish cultivation in Morocco is relatively young, especially in comparison with traditional cannabis concentrate-producing countries. Indeed, while hashish production in regions like the Middle East and Central Asia dates back centuries, this technique had not been used in North Africa until the second half of the 20th century, when Western travelers on the “Hippy Hashish Trail” brought the dry-sifting technique to Morocco from Lebanon and Afghanistan.
Moroccan Hash Strain
These travelers – most of them from the United States – visited countries where cannabis, hashish, opium, and other drugs were traditionally produced, taking advantage of the freedom that could be found at the time in certain parts of the world. Lebanon, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India – and Kashmir – or Nepal were must-stop destinations on this incredible and exotic route. It was there that some of these travelers learned ancient techniques for producing dry sift, which were later improved to reach industrial production levels. Shortly thereafter, some of these travelers visited Morocco and taught the locals how to make hashish from cannabis plants and how to prepare it for export.
